Located around 13 kilometers north of Brisbane, Aspley lays on flat ground to the south of Cabbage Tree Creek and is surrounded by hills to the east and west. Formerly known as Soldiers Flat, and then later Little Cabbage Tree Creek, it was renamed to Aspley in 1897 after the Aspley Vineyard and Aspley Orangery owned by John Morris in Maundrell Terrace were bought in 1865. The suburb had a population of 12,108 based on the 2016 census.

First land sales in the area were offered in 1857 and by 1868, the government spent 2,700 pounds to build what’s now known as Gympie Road. The Royal Exchange Hotel was later constructed to act as a general store in the area. Local businesses included bone mills, a bacon factory, and several dangerous industries. Aspley then experienced a major rise in population and further developments by the 1920s.

It was quickly promoted as a garden suburb by the 1960s, and it mostly consisted of bungalow houses built in styles similar to those in the southern states. The first drive-in theater along Albany Creek Road was opened by 1962, and a drive-in supermarket followed in 1971. The Aspley Hypermarket is a huge presence in the suburb, which caters not only to Aspley residents but people from neighboring suburbs as well. The Aspley Village Shopping Center opened in 2008 and is home to Coles supermarket and over 25 specialty shops. Aspley boasts of a lot of restaurants, a gymnasium, a library, and several car dealerships.
