Located 13 kilometers north of Central Brisbane, Carseldine is a residential suburb surrounded by Fitzgibbon to the east, Bridgeman Downs to the west, Aspley to the south, and Bracken Ridge and Bald Hills up north. It was originally part of Bald Hills and Aspley but when it became its own suburb in the 1970s, it took its name from the fencing contractor William Carseldine who lived in Bald Hills in 1858. As per the 2016 census, Carseldine had a population of 9,541.

By 1977, the North Brisbane College of Advanced Education opened and took in students from Petrie, Bald Hills, and southern postwar suburbs Aspley and Chermside. It then became a campus of the Queensland University of Technology but it closed in 2008 as it failed to find a new education provider. The building later housed public servants in 2012, and was announced to be redeveloped as the Carseldine Urban Village in 2016, which included commercial and retail spaces and up to 900 homes.

Carseldine Homemaker Center, its northern boundary, opened three Bunnings Warehouse stores in 2002. There’s a community-based shopping center too, anchored by two convenience centers, the first near the railway station and the second on the western end of the suburb, and a Woolworths supermarket on Beams Road. Carseldine also houses two plant nurseries along Beams Road, the Aspley Hornets AFL Club, and Club Coops. It’s well-serviced by buses of the Brisbane City Council and has its own railway station located on its east side.
