Located 12 kilometers north of Central Brisbane, Geebung is a postwar suburb and was named after the fruit of the plant Persoonia media or “jibung” in the Dharug language. It is separated from Wavell Heights and Chermside by the Downfall Creek and by 1888, its residential area was bordered on the northeast by the North Coast railway line. Geebung had a population of 4,626 based on the 2016 census.

The suburb was mainly a rural area and didn’t attract a lot of settlement. In fact, by the 1900s, the Post Office directory only recorded 34 families in Geebung! A progress association was then formed in 1920 and the Geebung Memorial Hall was established three years later. The Geebung Baptist Church was officially opened in 1926 and during the Second World War, the south of Geebung was host to the Chermside Army Camp. The Brisbane City Council later cleared the area in 1949 for the Olympic tire factory, while the Geebung State School opened in 1953 and a Catholic school in 1964. From 1954-1966, the population in Geebung and Zillmere rose from 7,000 to 18,000. 

In 1979, the R. H. Kirkley Education Centre was opened for students with intellectual and other disabilities. It was later renamed to R. H. Kirkley Special School and finally to Geebung Special School in 1986. A fossil of what is believed to be a 50-million-year-old species was discovered in the area in 2013. Geebung is very accessible to Brisbane through two nearby railway stations and is home to local schools, a regional shopping center, and a lot of greenery.
